CRAINER AMPS

At Crainer Amps, the goal was simple: create unique guitar amplifiers for artists. I started this business as a pandemic project to further my knowledge in electronics and to provide musicians with the equipment they need to fine tune their sound and express themselves fully. Check out the projects below to see what I’ve been working on! Please reach out if you're interested in a custom build for yourself.

The Brolga

This guitar amplifier is based on the AA1164 circuit. It is a class AB all tube amplifier that boasts 15 watts of output power. You'll love the tonal quality of this amplifier. It has a modified negative feedback switch to give you a little bit of early breakup. It is equipped with a 12" Weber Signature Series Speaker.  Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned player, Crainer has the power and tonal range you need to make your sound come alive.

The Demoiselle

I take great pride in my craftsmanship as an amp builder, especially when it comes to making artists happy. This amp is on the road right now with The Sheepdogs. It can produce a warm sustain and elegant clean tones, with a pronounced rectifier 'sag'. With 45 watts of power, this amp is a classic. It has been modified with a Master Volume and has 2 Weber Blue Dog Speakers which have detailed high end that doesn’t get hard or harsh at high volumes and an aggressive big low end.

The Blue

The Blue

My latest project is a tribute to the classic VOX style of British tone. Based on a familiar Class A EL84 platform, I utilized two EL84 power tubes and three 12AX7 preamp tubes to deliver 15 Watts of rich, glassy sound. Loaded with a 12" Weber Silver Bell speaker and an EZ81 tube rectifier gives slight compression at higher SPLs, giving you a dynamic range of tone to explore.

The Sandhill

Another project is a classic 18-Watt Marshall style build, with Treble, Mid, Bass controls that replace the tremolo circuit. This build is based on the 1974/2204 circuit with 3 12AX7 preamp tubes, 2 EL84 power tubes, and an EZ81 rectifier, as well as a Master Volume for customizing the sound to fit any room.

The Grey Crown

This was my very first build from a Trinity Amps Kit. I messed up a bunch while learning and ended up basically rebuilding it from the ground up a few times. Based on the classic design originally pioneered by HIWATT. I upgraded to Partridge transformers and spent a bunch of time fine tuning the tone. It is used as a spare head while on the road.
